Abstract

The digitalization of public services has become a major agenda in rural development policies. Beyond improving service efficiency, this transformation significantly affects social interaction patterns within rural communities. This article aims to analyze changes in rural social interaction patterns resulting from the digitalization of public services. A qualitative approach was employed through a systematic literature review of reputable national and international journals published between 2016 and 2025. The analysis categorizes findings based on key dimensions of social interaction changes, including communication intensity, citizen–government relations, social cohesion, and community participation. The results indicate that public service digitalization shifts social interactions from face-to-face communication toward digital-based exchanges, enhances access to information, and strengthens civic participation in village governance. Nevertheless, challenges such as digital divides, weakened direct social relations, and social exclusion among vulnerable groups remain significant. This study concludes that the success of rural public service digitalization largely depends on social readiness and inclusive policy approaches.
