The transformation of cultural identity in urban societies is a complex phenomenon closely linked to modernization, globalization, urbanization, and digital technological advancement. Cities worldwide experience socio-cultural transformations that reshape how individuals and communities construct identity, tradition, and social relations. This article aims to comprehensively analyze the patterns of cultural identity change in urban societies during the modern era by synthesizing empirical findings from various geographical contexts. This study employs a systematic literature review of reputable national and international journal articles focusing on urban cultural identity, globalization, urbanization, and modernity. The findings reveal that urban cultural identity shifts from traditional forms toward hybrid and glocal identities, characterized by ongoing negotiation between local values and global influences. Digital technology, migration, postmodern lifestyles, and urban commodification accelerate identity fragmentation and reconstruction. This study concludes that changes in urban cultural identity are not merely processes of value erosion but represent creative adaptations by urban communities in responding to modern challenges. This article contributes to strengthening the theoretical framework of urban cultural identity studies and provides conceptual insights for urban cultural policy development.
